Biography
Born in the United States, Dr Patricia Frischtak grew up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where she attended Medical School at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro graduating in 1996. She returned to the United States to further her medical training and education in 1997. She was a postdoctoral fellow with an academic grant from the National Institutes of Health at the Molecular and Medical Genetics Department at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas in 1997. From there she started her training in Pediatrics at the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City but quickly realized her interest was in Psychiatry. Dr Frischtak then went on to do her Adult Psychiatry training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
She moved to Massachusetts in 2001 to further her training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Children’s Hospital Boston graduating in 2003. She maintained an academic appointment as an instructor at the Harvard Medical School and an attending appointment at the Children’s Hospital Boston from 2003 until 2007. Throughout her medical education and training Dr Frischtak has received many awards and fellowships.
Since 2003 Dr Frischtak has worked in private practice with a mixture of patients from young children to seniors. Dr Frischtak was one of the founders of Progressive Therapeutics LLC Clinic, a state of the art paperless psychopharmacology practice serving the Boston Metrowest area. She has been involved with all aspects of advanced psychiatric medical practice.
Dr Frischtak has been one of the first psychiatrists to use routinely pharmacogenetics in her practice starting in 2011, however at the Mayo Clinic testing was done since 2001. She has tested and interpreted more than 500 hundred of genetic testing and mentored colleagues in interpretation of this wonderful tool when working with medications especially with minors.
Since 2016 Dr Frischtak stopped working in private practice and became the Medical Director for Actify Neurotherapies which is the premier provider of Ketamine Infusions in the country. Dr Frischtak is part of a select group of psychiatrist with extensive experience in ketamine treatment having supervised more than 3000 infusions herself. Ketamine infusions at this point is used with a non FDA approval for treatment resistant depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, fibromyalgia, migraines. Dr Frischtak is one of the physiscians in the country with the most experience in this morality of treatment.
Also while working at Actify Neurotherapies Dr Frischtak has been trained for the use of TMS for treatment resistant patients.
At the end of 2018 Dr Frischtak decided to return to her routes in adolescent psychiatry since Ketamine infusions are only administered to adults. Dr Frischtak is thrilled to join Potomac Pathways as the Medical Director of the mental health services which include the whole spectrum of level of care : Intensive Outpatient Program; Partial Hospital Program and soon residential treatment.
In 2019 Dr Frischtak continued working withketamine infusions at WholePersonCare Clinic.
